La Gomera: German migration stories from the Valle Gran Rey
While heated debates about integration and refugee politics are conquering everyday life in Germany, hundreds of thousands of Germans have been emigrating abroad for years. One of the most popular destinations is Spain, and for certain people, the Canarian village of Valle Gran Rey in the southwestern part of Gomera. The Canarian village has long been no insider tip, already in the 70s came the 68ers, a colorful variety of dropouts, rebels and hippies. They are followed by artists, nature lovers and visionaries, who often look for healing in front of the irritated and stress-flooded home. What is the secret of this place? Why did they leave their homeland or did their homeland leave them?
Director Ronald Urbanczyk seeks answers in the mirror image of his own migration history of a homeless late repatriate.
